Starbeck in Bloom Summer Show 2026

The Starbeck in Bloom Summer Show will be held in Starbeck Methodist Church Hall on Saturday 22nd August 2026, 11.30 am to 3.00 pm.

Show Schedule

CLASSES

SECTION 1. FRUIT & VEGETABLES

1. Four tomatoes on a plate (not cherry)
2. Six cherry tomatoes on a plate
3. Three onions grown from seed (tied)
4. Three onions from sets, under 1lb each, tops to be tied
5. Four potatoes – to be labelled for variety
6.Four runner beans
7 Four dwarf French beans
8. A dish of peas in the pod (6)
9. Two courgettes, no more than 8 ins.
10. Four beetroot, trimmed with 4 ins stalks
11. Three carrots, tops still on
12. One of any vegetable not named in above classes
13. One saucer of soft fruits – one variety, no more than 20
14. One plate of five stone fruits e.g., plum or cherry
15. Three apples – dessert or cooking.  Variety to be named

SECTION 2. FLOWERS (Vases to be provided by exhibitor)
16. Vase of three dahlias
17. Vase of garden flowers, any type (judged on quality of material, not design)
18. Vase of six sweet peas
19. Vase with one gladiolus
20. Vase of three Hydrangea heads, any variety
21. Vase of two roses – to be judged for perfume only
22. Four Hosta leaves
23. One Fuchsia, any variety, 5” to 14” pot
24. One geranium, any variety, 5” to 14” pot
25. Any other flowering pot plant, 5” to 14” pot
26. One foliage pot plant, 5” to 14” pot
27. A cactus or succulent houseplant
28. A jug of culinary and medicinal herbs, at least four varieties

SECTION 3. CAKES & PASTRIES
29. Four fruit scones
30. Four shortbread fingers
31. Four jam tarts
32. One Victoria sponge cake – raspberry jam filling, caster sugar on top (no cream)
33. Four individual butterfly buns
34. One banana loaf.

SECTION 4. PRESERVES
35. One jar of marmalade
36. One jar of lemon curd
37. One jar of fruit jam, any flavour
38. One jar of chutney, any flavour
39. One jar of pickled beetroot 

SECTION 5. HANDICRAFT
40. Item of wool craft, either knitted or crochet
41. A piece of embroidery, max 30 cm x 30 cm.
42. A piece of tapestry, max 30cm x 30 cm.
43. A soft toy suitable for a child – any material
44. An item of papercraft e.g. quilling, origami, décollage
45. Painting – ‘A flower study’, max 20cm x 30cm, any medium 
46. Painting – ‘The seaside’, up to 50 cm x 50 cm, any medium

SECTION 6. PHOTOGRAPHY
47. A photograph, title – ‘Shadows’, max A5
48. A photograph, title – ‘Architecture’, max A5

SECTION 7. CHILDREN’S CLASSES – up to 11 years
49. A bunch of flowers displayed in a jam jar
50. Four decorated fairy cakes
51. A drawing or painting of a favourite cartoon character, max A4
52. A space rocket made of Lego
53. A bean grown in a jar, showing roots.
54. A painted stone, of a flower.

Fruit & Vegetable Section
The Geoff Stewart Memorial trophy for the Best Veg in Show (from classes 1-12)
The Ron Robson Trophy for the Best Onion entry (classes 3 and 4)
The Bob Waud Trophy for most points in the fruit & vegetable classes (1-15)

Flower Section
The Ted de la Mare Trophy for the winner of class 17, Vase of garden flowers.
The Janet Borchard Trophy for the winner of class 23, Best Fuchsia

Cakes and Pastries Section
The Joyce Scarborough Trophy for the Best Pastry, winner of class 31

The Irene Winstanley Salver for the Best Victoria Sponge Cake, winner of class 32

Handicraft Section
The People’s Trophy for the best entry in the Handicraft Section, classes 40-44.

Photography Section
The Elliott Clark Trophy for the Best Photograph, Classes 47&48

Children’s Section

Rules

1. All exhibits in horticultural classes must be grown by the exhibitor in own garden, allotment, or greenhouse
2. Organisers will not be responsible for loss or damage to any exhibit.
3. Entry fee is 25p per entry. Prizes 1^st £2.00, 2^nd £1.00, 3^rd 50p.
4. The decision of the judges is final
5. Entry forms must be sent or taken to Starbeck Library or Beth’s Craft Shed by 5-00pm on Wednesday 19^th August 2026.
6. All exhibits must be staged between 8:30 am and 10:00 am on the day of the Show.
7. Exhibits must not be removed before 2:30 pm on the day of the Show but must be removed before 3:00 pm.  If you wish to leave your produce for sale, please collect a red sticker.  All proceeds will go to Starbeck in Bloom
8. Judging will commence at 10:00 am.  All exhibitors must vacate the Show room during judging.
9. Prize money can be collected after 2:45 pm.  Trophies will be awarded at the Starbeck in Bloom AGM in September.  All cups are perpetual and cannot be won outright – held for one year only.
10. Exhibitors requiring extra space must refer to the Section steward.
